Our week here in Maui has been wonderful. We have done very little and that's exactly what we had planned. We've spent nearly every day laying under a cabana on the sand or next to the pool. We took a couple of sight-seeing drives and walked through the streets of Lahaina. We've eaten a lot of great food at our favorite island restaurants and watched the sun go down each night, turning the sky those beautiful sunset colors. We've taken long walks along the beach and sat in the sand, soaking up the sun and enjoying the tropical breezes.
We had a very pleasant surprise during this past week. We've seen whales! The first time we saw them, it was from our lanai (balcony/patio). They were so close. It was thrilling. I've always wanted to be in the islands during whale season but have yet to make it. The first week of May is pretty late for them to still be around but we were told it happens every few years.
We spent our last night taking a sunset sail on our favorite sail boat (we do it every time we're here). But instead of sailing, they told us we'd be going out looking for whales. No complaints from me. We spent over half the time looking without any luck, but as we turned around to head back towards land, we saw the tell-tale spouts of whales. It was a male, female, and baby and we followed them for quite a while. It was a great way to end the week.
Now it's time to go home and face reality. How I wish I could stay here... here in paradise.
